An American, patriotic, Man in Service flag brooch, with a blue, sapphire, five pointed star in the centre, on a white background, pavé set with eight-cut diamonds, with a red border of calibré-cut rubies, mounted in 14ct white gold, with millegrain edges and an open cheneer gallery, with a yellow gold pin, with safety catch, stamped 14K, inventory number 8922, made in USA, 1941-1945.

Patriotic jewellery was produced in America. It was introduced in the First World War but it was in World War II that its popularity increased. It reflected a sense of service and helped provide a connection with men in the services and their wives, mothers, sweethearts and familes. Many American women proudly wore the pin version of a Man in Service flag. It was used in both World War I and World War II. It is also known as the Blue Star flag. Each family was entitled to hang a small Man in Service flag  in their window, to signify they had a family member in service. The flag was about a foot long and was hung vertically.
