Antique Sapphire and Diamond Crescent Brooch, Circa 1895

An antique sapphire and diamond crescent brooch, set with thirteen, oval and round faceted sapphires, graduating in size, alternating with eight, pairs of old-cut diamonds, terminating with two single old-cut diamonds at each end, estimated total diamond weight 1.00ct, in crown claw settings on the outer side and a knife edge setting and flat side on the inner side, mounted in 14ct gold. With pin and "trombone" safety clasp, and a screw fitting at the back. In Victorian symbolism the crescent or new moon symbolised a new relationship. Hopeful it will "wax" into matrimony, circa 1895.
