Antique Sapphire, Diamond and Gold Crescent Brooch, Circa 1895

An antique sapphire and diamond crescent brooch, set with nine, oval and round faceted sapphires, graduating in size, with an estimated stone weight of 1.75ct, alternating with eight pairs of old-cut diamonds, terminating with two old-cut diamonds at each end, with an estimated total diamond weight of 1.00ct, in cut down settings and pierced gallery on the outside and a knife edge setting and flat side on the inner side, mounted in 15ct gold. With pin and roller catch. In Victorian symbolism the crescent or new moon symbolised a new relationship. Hopeful it will "wax" into matrimony, circa 1895.
