He was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He served his apprenticeship in Dufftown, in Banffshire, then founded a successful retail watchmaking and jewellery business in Liverpool, England, in 1871, after moving there at the age of 22. His business expanded, with shops in most large cities in Great Britain, aided by the slogan "Who watches the Police?", after winning a tender to supply watches for the Liverpool Police. Advertising in Australian newspapers brought so much business he decided to move there, emigrating in 1886. He founded the business of Stewart Dawson and Co., in Sydney and soon had branches in Melbourne, and Auckland and Dunedin in New Zealand as well as Regent Street, in London. After making the company a limited liability company in 1907, Dawson sold the company, in 1931, to RHO Hills department store (now House of Fraser). The resulting company operated until around 1935. Today Stewart Dawson is owned by New Zealand-Australian retail company the James Pascoe Group, acting as the group's luxury jeweller in New Zealand. The Stewart Dawson's brand is no longer in used in Australia, however thirteen stores remain across New Zealand.
,
With thanks to Wikipedia

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1047/8026/7850/files/stewart-dawson-art-deco-black-onyx-diamond-and-white-gold-dress-set-circa-1930_47d41bde-b9c3-461a-aa54-b69dbfb9ded7.jpg?v=1791140697
modern-diamond-rock-crystal-black-onyx-and-white-gold-cufflinks
Modern Diamond Rock Crystal Black Onyx and White Gold Cufflinks

A pair of modern black onyx, rock crystal and diamond cufflinks, with a round brilliant-cut diamond set in the centre, in a rub over setting, encircled with black onyx, on domed, carved, reeded rock crystal, with an octagonal border of black onyx, mounted in white gold, stamped 18K.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1047/8026/7850/files/modern-diamond-rock-crystal-black-onyx-and-white-gold-cufflinks_ea598292-9d04-44f4-ac55-83699bddee64.jpg?v=1791140730
art-deco-ruby-black-onyx-and-platinum-cufflinks-circa-1930
Art Deco Ruby, Black Onyx and Platinum Cufflinks, Circa 1930

A pair of French, Art Deco, black onyx and ruby cufflinks, mounted in platinum, with square-cut rubies, in heavy, platinum, square settings, within discs of black onyx, in platinum surrounds, with French dog marks for platinum and numbered 25, with inventory marks, circa 1930.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1047/8026/7850/files/art-deco-ruby-black-onyx-and-platinum-cufflinks-circa-1930_88e01ddf-a859-4b0f-91e0-1d24b41062e5.jpg?v=1791141171
vintage-weingrill-black-onyx-diamond-and-gold-dress-set-circa-1960
Vintage Weingrill Black Onyx, Diamond and Gold Dress-Set, Circa 1960

A vintage Weingrill black onyx and diamond dress-set, set with black onyx and a diamond in each plate, in a square shape with cut corners, mounted in 18ct yellow gold, signed Weingrill, stamped 750, with an Italian mark * 15 VR.
