French Antique Diamond and Silver Upon Gold Crescent Brooch, 5.00ct, Circa 1880
A French antique crescent moon brooch, the body set with two rows of old-cut diamonds, graduating in size, with rose-cut diamonds at the ends, weighing an estimated total of 5.00 carats, mounted in silver and 18ct yellow gold, with a pin and hinge catch fitting, with French eagle marks, for 18ct gold, on the pin and crescent, circa 1880. In Victorian symbolism the crescent or new moon represented a new relationship. Hopeful it will "wax" into matrimony.
