An early Victorian snake necklace, with a gem set head, the eyes are set with cabochon cut garnets and the head is set with pale aquamarines and chrysoberyls, with a tapering, articulated scale ring link body, mounted in 15ct gold, circa 1840. In Victorian symbolism the snake biting its tail represented eternal love.
