A vintage, modernist, gold bracelet, with alternating yellow and white gold links, formed of swirls of ribbon. Made in Italy, in Alessandria, with Italian marks for the period that Mussolini was in power, 1922 to 1943. Mark attributed to Carlo Illario & F.LLI

The coming to power of the Fascist party, in the 1920s, brought a wave of governmental regulation. New statutes for marking were instituted in 1934, with standards marked in an oval cartouche. On the left was the maker's registered number. On the right was a two letter abbreviation of the province in which the maker was registered. In the centre was a fasces, an axe bundled with birch sticks, it is an ancient Roman symbol representing a magistrate's power and jurisdiction. Following the demise of the Fascist government, in 1944, the fasces was obliterated from maker's marks.
