Pearl
A pearl is produced within the living shell of a mollusc. Natural pearls were exceptionally valuable throughout the Roman era, but it was the invention of cultured pearls in 1893 that make this organic gemstone soar. Pearls are available in many colours from across the world - examples are Tahitian pearls, Fijian pearls and South Sea pearls.
