Vintage Cartier 18ct Yellow Gold Mother and Calf Elephant Brooch, Circa 1990

Regular price £9,900.00

A vintage Cartier 18 carat yellow gold, mother and calf elephant brooch, featuring two stylised, geometric, dome shaped elephants, with the calf closely coupled to the mother, on a shepherd's hook. The calf can be worn as a separate pendant, signed Cartier, numbered 850525, with 750 and French eagle head marks, for 18 carat gold and PAB with crossed corn cob maker's mark, for Pierre Brun, with a white gold pin and trombone safety clasp, circa 1990.

Pierre Brun (1902 to 1982) opened his jewellery workshop, in the heart of Paris, in 1936. He retired in 1975 and passed the company to his sons, Jean-Pierre and Etienne. The family-run goldsmithing company specialised in making solid gold luxury items for many French businesses. This included jewellers, such as Asprey, Boucheron, Bulgari, Cartier, Chaumet, Van Cleef and Arpels. The grand Maisons would call on the Brun brothers for their expertise and craftsmanship. Their crossed corn cob maker's mark appears on some of the finest 20th century gold pieces.
