Sapphire is mostly thought of as a blue gemstone, but this name can actually refer to a rainbow of corundum. A large blue sapphire has long been a symbol of luxury - a famous example is the diamond and sapphire engagement ring of Princess Diana, now worn by the Duchess of Cambridge.
