Antique Ruby Diamond and Gold Navette Shaped Cluster Ring, Chester Hallmark, 1901

£6,200.00
S301023R3

A Victorian ruby, diamond and gold navette shaped cluster ring, with a cushion shaped faceted ruby, in the centre of two oval rubies, surrounded by fourteen old-cut diamonds, in a claw set navette shaped cluster, with a pierced crown gallery, onto a plain polished shank, mounted in 18ct gold, with a Chester Hallmark, with an A date letter for 1901.

The assaying of items in Chester can be dated as far back as the 15th century, although it was in the 17th century that Chester was granted an Assay Office by Act of Parliament. The earliest recorded dated Assay Office marks are for 1680. The first date letter was introduced for 1701. The Assay Office closed on 24th, August, 1962. Due to the closure items bearing a Chester Hallmark are considered rare and sought after.
